Holding pattern

Today I has my long awaited follow-up with my cardiologist and we got some good news and some bad news. The good news:
1. No plaque or blocked arteries
The bad news:
1. I need to have a stress test tomorrow or Friday
2. I have a small deformation that causes a few of my veins to be pushed out the wrong way and loop over and rest on my heart.
3. The big unknown: This could be serious, it could be mild, it could be nothing. They hope to know more after the stress test. So, my doc told me to put all running on hold until they get this thing figured out. So until I know more, I am in a holding pattern.

  3. I am so thankful your arteries and numbers are good, Matt. Praying the vein formation is a minor problem and at best you will need to listen to your body when you exert it.
Love you SO MUCH!! Love, Mom xoxo

  5. I am sure it was hard and shocking to hear, Matt. I like the good news part of it. That is very encouraging. Let's hold a really positive thought towards what the stress test will show. It appears to be an anomaly that you have always had and now Dr. Honda just needs to know how to deal with it. He is such an awesome cardiologist. I know that you are in the best of hands.
    I love you a bunch,
    Denise

  6. Holding pattern over Redondo Beach!!
Matt, as you have stated before "I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never goin' keep me down". We all have challenges in our lives but we dust ourselves off and get back on the saddle. That is what John Wayne would call "true grit". And you have it. I know the following statement is overdone but I truly believe it. Thing's happen for a reason. If you hadn't trained to run in the L.A. Marathon and the episode hadn't happened "if" there is something going on it never would have been detected. While we are keeping only good thought's that IF there is something going on it is good to find out now so it can be treated. If not than all avenues will have been exhausted. But trust me ALL avenues will be tested so you don't have to go through this again. We love you, Matt. Susan & Mennis

  7. Hey Matt,

Thanks for keeping us updated. I agree with Susan in that it is very beneficial to find out about any problems at a younger age, so maybe this marathon thing wiil have longer term benefits.

A few years ago I was having chest pain and went through the whole stress test debacle you're doing. My chest pain was radiating from my neck due to surfing and my heart was fine, but the doc found I had borderline high cholesteral. He said this was hereditary and if went untreaeted, I had a 90% chance of having a heart attack by age 50. Now I'm on Lipitor and my doctor said he could alleviate most men's heart conditions later in life if more people came in to see him at our age, BEFORE any major problems happen.

In the long run, this could be a very GOOD thing bro.
